Your eyes squint against the rays. At first glance you see
foam and rocks. Sand moves beneath your feet with each step you take. It’s
rough with dry dead seaweed and tiny sticky twigs. But, your shoes are off
anyways, soon the discomfort will be over. And it is. You trudge through the
soft sand silently. The waves crash louder and louder, lapping at the shore.
The bright blue sky seems endless as you look up, it’s so high above it seems
unreachable. The sound is deafening now, drowning out the world you’ve left
behind. The ground becomes solid beneath you, sticky and stiff in the sunlight.
You look out as the waves leap around one another, chasing and receding only to
force themselves forward again. Smile lighting your face, you think of yourself
as a speck, an inconsequential blip, compared to this. Crystal blue leads
towards the tumultuously clouded sky, they try to reach one another. Thick
drops of rain begin to fall as the torrential clouds block out the sun. Time to
go home.
